We are observing "no data" for Total Statistics Portal under Monitoring Tools in View point for one of our production Teradata servers .Why is it showing like this, even when we have ~ 4 PB of system space. Is there any way we can figure out if something is wrong and correct it?

System health status and heartbeat query threshold response time

$

Per this article:
http://developer.teradata.com/blog/stever/2011/08/understanding-the-system-health-equation
"A Teradata Database system is considered DOWN in the health equation if any of the following conditions occurs:

  • A canary query is enabled in the health equation and returns an error (such as a SQL parse exception or login failure).
  • The System Heartbeat canary query is enabled in the health equation and fails to complete in under 60 seconds.
  • Any other canary query is enabled in the health equation and fails to complete in under 30 minutes."

Is there any way to change the maximum allowed response time on the System Heartbeat canary query (sel * from dbcinfo)?  We've seen a few instances where we received "health down" alert for the heartbeat query when the system isn't actually down.  Sometimes other system conditions (which we'd like to alert on separately) do cause a heartbeat response of greater than 60 seconds, triggering the "health down" alert.  We want to increase this value to something that would raise the likelihood that the system is actually down when we receive the alert.  For sake of example let's say 120 seconds.  So: Can we do this? And if so, where?

I am running an arcmain data copy, I see something like below in the arc/copy log file:

05/17/2015 20:13:00  ARC HAS REQUESTED 4 SESSIONS, TASM HAS GRANTED IT 38

                     SESSIONS

Just wanted to know where can I see the above setting when TASM is granting more sessions than requested in the arcmain job.

Abort sessions in responding phase

Hi,
I have a question regarding the viewpoint alert setup. I have noticed that there are some sessions that are in "not idle" queue for a long time (say 1+ days). When i go to the sessions, i see that the query is on "responding" state and doing nothing. I want to set up an alert to send an email to dba team and abort them. What is the alert that i should choose here - active time, connection time etc ?- this is the closest that i can see. I checked the viewpoint user guide. Unfortunately, that doesn't give details on the detail meaning of these.

Very long running queries impacting performance due to frequent re-classification

$

We have a relatively large datawarehouse (V14.0 Viewpoint V14.10 SLES 10).
We have a problem with certain types of query and certain source tables that causes us tremendous problem with regards system delays.
The queries are characterised by the source tables being quite large in terms of rows (1 billion rows+) and an OLAP fuction being used in the query. The execution plan states that the estimated time qualifies the query to go into the SHORT workload but very quickly the CPU used causes the query to be reclassified first to MEDIUM and then LONG and sits there for over 40 minutes, effectively blocking legitimate LONG queries. Statistics are current and valid.
The other instance where very quick reclassification following a mis-classification happens is when a very wide table (2000 columns) is referenced. We are aware that the design of the table is poor but the same problem occurs.
So my question is. Is there any possible way we can implement an exception/throttle to protect the system from this behaviour?
We are due to move to TD 14.10 or 15.0 in the near future and that will include an upgrade to SLES 11 but in the meantime any sggestions would be welcome.

Definition of 'Active Time' seconds in Session Alert

I setup an alert to abort queries running over 30 minutes. The settings are 'Alert Rules' = All, 'Active Time is greater than 1800 seconds', 'Alert Action' = 'Abort Session'. Viewpoint abort the session after less than 1 minute. Does the 1800 seconds represent elapsed time or CPU time?

System Default Utility Limits

Hi there,
I not have defined specific Utility Limits on one of our system, so I'm using the default system utility limits i.e.

System Default Utility Limits

UTILITY TYPE

LIMIT

UTILITY TYPE

LIMIT

FastLoad or MultiLoad

30

FastLoad or MultiLoad or FastExport

60

FastLoad

30

MultiLoad

30

FastExport

60

Backup Utilities (ARC/BAR)

350

My question is what happens when the system limit is hit when using TASM to manage sessions/utilities i.e. do new jobs go to the delay queue or are they rejected (i.e. as would have happened if MaxLoadTasks was active)?

Multiple idle sessions for 'viewpoint'

Good morning,
Our production system is monitored by a different viewpoint server that our dev/test system.
I often see multiple sessions for user 'viewpoint' and some sessions will be idle for several days.  This morning, I noticed two sessions that have been idle for over 30 days.

Can anyone explain why that is and if it is okay to abort those sessions?

Thank you

On the Productivity Portlet the QPH calculation at times seems exceptionally high can you explain why that is?

We just upgraded to Viewpoint 15.10 and I started using the Productivity portlet.   WHen I choose to monitor a particular user/session there are times that it gives me QPH (queries per hour) that seem to be unrealistic, while at other times it seems quite normal.
What is it really counting?  If we initiate a query that is doing an all amp query does the QPH get multiplied by the number of amps on the system?
Thanks in advance.
